It started in 1526 with the painter Lucas van Leyden and ended in 2011 with Matrix Frame in de Pieterskerk! (church) Heavenly angels, scary devils, beautiful nudes, stories without ending, painted, drawn and engraved by the wonder child from Leiden, Lucas van Leyden, famous for his graphical works and paintings.
The triptych "Last Verdict" was painted in commission and hung in the church, the Pieterskerk. During the 16th century iconoclastic fury, they saved it and it was hung in the City Hall. In 1869 it moved to museum "Lakenhal".
On March 19 2011 Queen Beatrix opened the exhibition "Lucas van Leyden and the Renaissance", an unique exhibition with more than 250 paintings. Artists Allart Lakke and Casper Faassen called out for the rebirth of the triptych.
12 local artists showed their version of it.
Casper Faassen, a well known artist/painter from Leiden, had his version produced in Matrix Frame, in the original size of 300,5 x 434,5 cm., printed on textile and made by America Digitaal Druk in Leiden.
On May 19 2011 this Matrix triptych was unveiled by the mayor of Leiden in the Pieterskerk. After 445 years the triptych, in a Matrix-version, is back in the church, where it all started!
